On a request made by the Commissioner, Mr. Namal Liiyanage, a special discussion was held recently with the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management. The Chairman, Director General (Training) and a team of officers of the Institute attended the meeting.
It was discussed on offering vocational training for institutionalized children in the hotel industry and the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management agreed to implement it as a pilot project. As Housekeeping has a very good demand in the hotel sector, the discussion on initially giving a short-term training on it and then placing on jobs was highly fruitful.
In addition to the training provided for institutionalized children, attention was also drawn on extending it to school-dropouts, as endowing a citizen who can stand on his feet is a social responsibility of everyone.
