29 12 2018 - 08:50 AM

Five Van were handed over to the five provincial councils Northern, Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa and North Western to facilitate the transportation of Children to and from courts with an idea to minimize the secondary victimization of such children when transporting them alone with adults’ prisoners and suspects.

This matter was given special attention at the Supreme court when fundamental Rights case No. 335/FR was called for hearing and the Department of Probation & Child Care Services and the Prison Department were ordered to prepare a policy framework in relation to transportation of children to and from courts.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Women & Child Affairs together with Department of Probation & Child Care Services.

It is expected to provide vans for transportation of children to the remaining four provincial councils in the next year.
