Launching of Provincial Action Plans on cabinet Approved Alternative Care Policy in Sri Lanka

Nine Provincial Action Plans were formulated at the provincial level for the implementation of the National Policy on Alternative Care in Sri Lanka which achieved Cabinet Approval in 2019 with the aim of providing a strong family based care for the children in Sri Lanka.

The launching of these Provincial Action Plans was carried out at the Heritance Hotel Premises in Negambo on the last 08th of June. 

This program was headed by Hon State Minister of Women and Children’s Affairs, Kala Keerthi Mrs Geetha Samanmalee Kumarasinghe and UNICEF representative Mr Cristian Scoog, Secretary to the Ministry Mrs Yamuna Perera, Provincial Chief Secretaries, Provincial Commissioners and Senior Probation Officers including several other special invitees also participated in this event. 

Here, the 9 Provincial Action Plans were awarded to the Hon State Minister. 

Special focus was made by the Provincial Departments of Probation and Child Care Services on the need for minimizing children being institutionalized, which is the key objective of this program and for that need to strengthen the family and several specific activities were identified to implement the Provincial Action Plans on a priority target basis and also consented to the expeditious implementation of these activities.
