Obtaining the Participation of Children in the functioning of the Local Government Bodies

UNICEF Institution conducted a program on how to get the participation of children for the functioning of the local government bodies was held at the Marriot Hotel on 17.01.2024 and 18^th.

This program had been named as ‘Child -Friendly Local Governance in Sri Lanka, Experience and Lesson Learnt’.

In this program, the children of the National Children’s Council conveyed their views to the officials of Local Government as well as introduction of few programs implemented currently was also carried out.

The main fact that was discussed here, was the importance of receiving views of children in the activities relevant to children by the local government institutions.

High recognition was received to the presentation presented by the children of the National Children’s Council who participated in this workshop and the Heads of Departments including the Chief Secretary of the Northern Province ensured that they will get the views of children when planning programs in the future. Also, being invited to come to the Northern Province to share the experiences relevant to the Child Centric Disaster Risk Reduction Program implemented by children, by the Chief Secretary of the Northern Province, and being invited to the National Children’s Council to work together with institutions such as Hemas, Keels, and making decisions to create opportunity for the children’s clubs to engage with the mechanism of the Provincial Councils, can be cited as special achievements.
