Discussion on the preparation of an Expedite Program on child suspects and child offenders

A discussion, on the preparation of an Expedite Program on child suspects and child offenders between the ages of 16 – 18 detained in Prisons, was held at the Ministry of Women, Child Affairs on 18.04.2023 with the officers of the Ministry of Women, Child Affairs and Social Empowerment, Department of Probation and Child Care Services and other officers of the relevant departments.

The Secretary to the Ministry of Women, Children’s Affairs and Social Empowerment, Mrs. Yamuna Perera, Commissioner of the Probation and Child Care Services, Mr Namal Liyanage, Senior Probation Officer Mrs Nirmalee Perera, Assistant Secretary (Law) of the Ministry of Justice, Prisons and Constitutional Reforms, Ms Chandima Welikala, Deputy Director (Law) of Legal Aid Commission of Sri Lanka, Lawyer, Mrs Thushari Sakunthala , Jailor of the Prison Department, Mr Pushpakumara and a group of officers from the UNICEF Organization were participated in this event.

It was decided to evacuate these children as soon as possible from the prison premises by obtaining further details of these children from the Prison Department.
