“Children Above All” National Celebration on World Children’s Day – 2023

This year’s National celebration on World Children’s Day was organized by the Department of Probation and Child Care Services in collaboration with the Ministry of Women, Children’s Affairs and Social Empowerment and it was held with great success on 01^st of October 2023 at the Temple Trees, with the leadership of Hon. Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena on the invitation of Hon State Minister of Women and Children’s Affairs Kalakeerthi Ms Geetha Samanmalee Kumarasinghe.

About 375 Children including children of National Children’s Councils established encompassing all the districts in Sri Lanka, children of the Child Development Centers, school children, children with special needs as well as Puttalam, Kalpitiya villages, were participated in this occasion.

Here launching the World Children’s Day celebration stamp and first -day cover, launching the Sri Lankan children’s publication on adopting child- centric disaster risk reduction, submission of child – centric disaster risk reduction guide, evaluating the best project under the child-centric disaster risk reduction and evaluating the winners of digital story telling was carried out here and awarding gifts and certificates to these winners were also carried out here.

This event which consisted of many various cultural events was sponsored by UNICEF, SOS Children’s Village, and Leeds. World Vision institutions.

Many officials including Heads of state and non-government organizations and local and foreign representatives participated in this occasion.
